Matthias Gäth

The chef at Restaurant Equo 1706

Matthias Gäth discovered his great passion for cooking and baking as a child. His fascination for flavours, fresh ingredients and manual skills in the kitchen accompanied him from an early age and laid the foundation for his culinary career.

Born and raised in Waren (Müritz) in northern Germany, he was drawn to the wide world of gastronomy after completing his training. His years of travelling took him through some of the most renowned hotels and restaurants in Switzerland. One formative stop was the traditional Gasthaus Löwen in Menzingen, where Gabriela Döscher worked as head chef at the time. He then worked in the restaurant Ecco in the 5-star Hotel Giardino in Ascona under the direction of chef Rolf Fliegauf, who had a strong culinary influence on him. Other important stations were Klosters, Sihlbrugg and Zug, where he continued to develop his skills and mould his individual style.

Matthias Gäth has been in charge of the culinary side of the Equo 1706 restaurant as head chef since March 2019. His cuisine is modern, creative and yet down-to-earth - a harmonious combination of innovative ideas, perfect craftsmanship and respect for high-quality products. With a great deal of passion, precision and a fine sense of flavours, he creates dishes that surprise, inspire and remain in the memory.
